Cannes is a small but world famous city on the Cote d'Azur. It is the 61th largest city of France. The city is located on the Mediterranian Sea 60 km from the Italian Border. 
Until the earlyI9 th century Cannes was a small fishing village. Accoring to the legend the British Cancelor Lord Henry Peter Brougham was travelling to Italy in I834 .... the border beeing closed he had to return to France .... where he spend the night in the village of Cannes at the auberge of Maître Pinchinat, located on the rue du Port. Charmed by the beauty of the place and the famous la bouillabaisse soup he decided to make Cannes his summer residence and planned to build the Villa Eleonora .... soon the London High Society was follwing and Cannes became a fashionale resort town. 
Even though real estate promoters have destroyed much of Cannes Belle Epoque villas the city is still a fashionale resort town. Since I946 takes place the International Cannes Film Festival The Palais des Festivals located on the famous Croisette is also the place where many Congresses and Events like the happen all along the year. Cannes is the home of beautiful Hotels in particular the Hotel Martinez and the Hotel Majestic |
